My children have a strong brand preference for those little packets of Kimlan soy sauce you get with take-out sushi. They say it's sweeter and tastier and fight for whatever extras we have at the dinner table. I keep trying to find it in the grocery store, but even Smart and Final doesn't carry it, so I went to check out their website, which said:

For the natural taste of traditional Chinese dishes, the soybean based sauces will allow you the capture the many tastes of the Chinese culture, Enhance your home recipes or try out our recipes with this series aimed at providing a heartier sauce without the hours of work. These phrases are made up by a graphical artist and is in no way a professional chef. It will be left up to a real marketing personnel to replace this text with the proper product description because this is only used as word fodder for the page composition.

My googling also led me to this ever-so-reassuring link:

My mother was a terrible cook except for a few staples (mmm her crepe-like pancakes) so, really there is nothing from my childhood that hated then and love now. I didn't have properly cooked broccoli unti I was 17.
